With many gyms still operating with restrictions and the weather getting too cold to do an outdoor workout, there’s always the option of working out from home. People who live in apartments with paper thin walls might worry about bothering the neighbors, but there are plenty of full body exercises that don’t require jumping up and down or banging dumbbells on the floor.
Until it’s safe for everyone to go back to the gym, here are some tips for reducing noise while working out from home!
Skip the Heavy Machinery
The hardest part about not going to the gym is missing the large equipment you normally use to exercise. A treadmill, stationary bike, and stair climber are not ideal if you have an apartment as they are loud and take up a lot of space. Instead, try workouts that only require a mat, pair of men’s or women’s supportive sneakers, and yourself. You can always go for a run or bike outside if the weather is nice.
Swap Regular Dumbbells for Plastic Coated Ones
You don’t have to give up your arm workout just because you’re working out from home! While stainless steel dumbbells make an annoying clank every time you set them down, there are other types of dumbbells that are whisper quiet. Look for dumbbells with a polyurethane coating that dulls the sound when they are put down. You can also set your weights on a mat to further reduce noise. If you don’t want to buy a whole new set of dumbbells, you can easily rent them from Ruckify to use while you’re working out from home.
Instead of Blasting the Stereo, Use Headphones
Many people enjoy music or a motivational podcast to pump them up while they are working out. Save your neighbors from having to listen to your favorite tunes by wearing wireless headphones that allow you to move freely and silently.
Focus on Bodyweight Exercises
Instead of doing a HIIT or other cardio class, try bodyweight exercises like squats, lunges, leg raises, and planks. You can do all of these in a pair of women’s or mens comfortable sneakers while using a mat. While these exercises don’t make any noise, they are still very effective and will give you a great workout. If you are looking for a practice that targets the core and creates long, lean muscles, give Pilates a try. All you need is a mat, which can be rented on Ruckify.
