Join Us In Helping Australia’s Firefighters

Like you, we’ve spent the last few weeks paralyzed with helplessness as we watched the bushfire disaster unfold in Australia.

Since our last post on the fires, conditions have improved, but not before even more devastation struck communities and wildlife across the continent.

At least 32 people have died and the fires have destroyed about 46 million acres (18.6 million hectares) of bushland and towns. Main streets have been wiped out and regions have been evacuated. Meanwhile, Sydney and Melbourne have been blanketed in hazardous smoke.

Communities have been evacuated as the fire front pushed through.

Sporting matches and music festivals have been cancelled, while rainforests never meant to burn have gone up in smoke, taking with them species of plants that had existed there for 180 million years. A fire this week came within three miles of Australia’s national parliament in Canberra.

Koalas, kangaroos, and smaller species that won’t make the headlines have lost their lives and their habitats. The smoke from the fires stained the glaciers of New Zealand, more than 1000 miles away, and is expected to circle the globe to return to Australia.

Thankfully, some much-needed rain has doused the threat on many of the fire fronts, but Australia is not out of danger yet. Many areas are still threatened, and the country is still only halfway through the fire season.

what can be done?

At Ruckify we’ve watched the crisis from afar. What could we do in the face of such a widespread, horrific crisis? How could we even hope to make a difference?

The idea came from within: what if we made t-shirts as a fundraiser? Shirts that didn’t just help raise much needed funds for the relief effort, but also boosted awareness of the many organizations that people could donate to in order to help.

The Support Australia shirts are now available.

And so the fundraiser was born. Proceeds from the purchase of every shirt will be donated to the New South Wales Rural Fire Service (RFS), to go toward firefighting equipment and training for the rest of this bushfire season – and the next.

Each shirt costs $30, and any purchase will come with a coupon for $5 off your next Ruckify rental. You can pick the shirts up from the dedicated RuckifyStore, where it will be shipped out to you for free.

The shirts have a list of organisations you can help during and after the bushfire crisis.
